Cthulhu Mythos

Nyarlathotep, Randolph Carter

I've been shipping this for almost a decade now, which is wild to me. I'm excited to see pretty much any take on this! Feel free to follow wherever inspiration leads you :) I'm also open to fic about either of them individually, or featuring one, the other, or both with other characters.

For prompts, there are a few different directions. I'm always excited to see worldbuilding in the Dreamlands---does Randolph return to Kadath to confront Nyarlathotep? Does Nyarlathotep find Randolph again in the Dreamlands? If they become a Couple, what would people in the Dreamlands make of that (I would love to see outsider POV)? I also like the idea of Randolph becoming more paranoid---he has to have enemies---and establishing a large espionage network in the name of self-protection, but possibly also to keep a hold on power. Dreamland politics in general seem extremely fun.

My id has a great love of Nyarlathotep being whumped. This could go in a hurt/comfort direction or not >:3. Or, somewhat similar, in a smut/kink direction---submissive Nyarlathotep (willingly or not) is like catnip for me.

Don Quixote

I did not nominate this one but I was so excited to see this in the tagset! I'd really be excited to see whatever you do with Don Quixote, Sancho, and/or Dulcinea.

Fic about Dulcinea/Aldonza would be great. Since her whole deal in the book is being off-screen, I've always found it fun to imagine what the real Aldonza is like. Would word of Quixote's exploits reach her? Would she embarrassed and put off by it, or would she herself get caught up in the chivalric fantasy?

This also feels extremely ripe for AUs and crossovers. Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in the Dreamlands? Conjured up by the holodeck and roaming around the Enterprise/Deep Space 9? Interrupting other stories a la SCP-4028? So much potential!

Either this or Warrior Cats was the first thing I ever wrote fanfiction for; it definitely has a very special place in my heart :')

The Maddy-Loki-Odin dynamic was one of my favorite parts of the book. I would love to see missing scene fic about them---or if you can find a way to bring back Odin as himself?

I enjoy Loki ships (though I prefer fic about him and Maddy to be platonic), so anything with him and Odin or him and Skadi would be great. He's so pathetic and sopping wet, and all his relationships are so toxic <3. Bad-things-happen-to-Loki fic featuring Skadi would be delicious.

Finally, this is kind of a crack ship, but Maddy/Skadi? I can imagine Maddy having a crush on Skadi---how would Maddy handle that? If it were revealed, how would Skadi feel about it?

Or, I read DQOUK in high school and it lodged itself in my brain where it remains. I’m happy (and have some prompts for) with ships that don’t include both characters, and you don’t have to include both - but I’ll open with Rantep thoughts:

• Nyarlathotep getting revenge on Randolph for the end of Dream Quest (can be sexy revenge or regular revenge)

• More generally, how does Nyarla feel about more or less losing to Some Guy?

• Randolph the writer trying to express his experiences and what happened to him, and/or writing about Nyarlathotep in his pulp stories

• Time travel! Nyarlathotep and Randolph meeting asynchronously - Nyarlathotep going to torment a teenage Randolph, or even Randolph finding Nyarlathotep before Dream Quest happens for Nyarla and setting something in motion. Nyarlathotep getting mad at Randolph for mucking about on the timeline?

• Kink with reluctantly submissive Nyarlathotep is a biiiig guilty pleasure

• Smut in general where shit gets weird, like, incomprehensible geometry weird. Taking the “wait does this mean he has three hands” problem of writing smut and going crazy with it.

• Randolph using Yog-Sothoth as leverage against Nyarla

I’m interested in Carter’s backstory! ‘The Silver Key’ talks a bit about his life outside of the Dreamlands and spooky stuff. What is Carter’s family like? How did his clairvoyance manifest? What happened to him in the Great War?

Following that, explorations of Carter’s human (or ex-human) relationships. I definitely headcanon Harley and Randolp as having been in a relationship. What did that look like? Was Harley a good partner, or was he similarly domineering as in ‘Statement’? Also open to kinky interpretations of “Warren always dominated me.”

There’s also Richard! I see Richard and Randolph as having more of a close friendship than having been in a relationship, but I would be interested in seeing them try it. I’d also be interested in a how-they-met type fic. Was Randolph there for Richard’s ghoul transformation?

I would also be interested in Randolph as king of Ilek-Vad. Is he cut out for politics and court intrigue? How does he feel about statecraft? What does the government there look like?

• I also have a concept I’ve been toying with of Randolph growing to understand that his position is quite precarious, and developing an intense security apparatus (I was reading a lot of John Le Carre for like a year lol)

Onto Nyarla. I would love to see him get whumped in whatever way appeals to you. “Nyarlathotep gets captured by Nodens who proceeds to noncon/humiliate him” lives rent-free in my brain. Very open to crueltide with Nyarla.

Id brain is also a big fan of Yhoundeh/Nyarlathotep femdom - feel free to get weird with it. Poly Yhoundeh/Nyarlathotep/Randolph would also be interesting - how does Randolph get integrated in a relationship between literal gods?

Another old old obsession of mine! Requesting any – I don’t have as many specific ideas but it’s a small fandom I’m very excited about.

I’d love to see fic about the mentorship relationship between Maddy and One-Eye before the events of the book. Maddy learning to harness her powers, or Odin’s perspective. How does he feel about what he’s hiding from her? Are there any complicated feelings, or guilt?

Maddy and Loki friendship is also fun. Maddy is relatively young in Runemarks; after the events of the book, without Odin, is Loki a bad influence on her?

Loki and Odin is a ship of mine. I’ve had Phil Collins In the Air Tonight stuck in my head for the past week and I feel like that’s the vibe for this pairing, you know? (Or Fleetwood Mac The Chain.)

Finally, Loki and Skadi for terrible id reasons. How do they interact with each other after Runemarks?

…Actually, now that I think about it, the possibility of Maddy/Skadi post-Runemarks is a little bit intriguing to me. What if Maddy one day realized that she found Skadi really attractive? How would she handle it? If she was kind of obvious about it, or word reached Skadi, how would Skadi react?

Bauhaus

My main thoughts for this are smut, isekai, or AU. For smut, I’m okay with any combination so long as it doesn’t involve slash between the Haskins brothers (and same applies for slash without smut).

• Early years of the band - were there any impulsive moments in seedy clubs, or hotel rooms? What happens when you drunkenly hook up and have to face your bandmates in the morning?

• The poppers incident – I suppose you can get high on poppers, but that’s not the first thing that comes to mind for me.

• Or as a follow up - either David and Kevin deciding to do something about how stupid Peter and Daniel were to splash poppers on Kevin’s face.

• Later on: there was a lot of bad blood when the band first broke up. How did they recover the relationship with Peter when Bauhaus reunited? Did that history come back for them? How?

An isekai or an AU would also be really fun. It could be a fantasy setting a la Dungeons and Dragons (for an isekai, which of them played it before, recognizes the setting, and gets made fun of for being a nerd)? Or time travel isekai to a particular historical setting - feel free to go anywhere from proto Indo-European hunter gatherer societies to the Medieval period to the Cold War. The same setting interests also apply to an AU! And if there’s a particular type of setting I didn’t mention but that you like, go for it!

On a similar note, going classic horror - the band goes to play a show in a weird Maine town, or they stay in a hotel with a weird history, or they break down in the middle of nowhere and weird shit starts happening. No death of band members please, but feel free to write something spooky!
